Reading time: 2 minutes
Prompt: I’m foregoing the prompt today to talk about the first week of January Jumpstart
Eight down and only 23 more to go!
This is the part where I confess, as the host of January Jumpstart, that I have succeeded in writing 6 of the 8 days so far this month. Not bad, not bad. It’s hard to resist giving myself a little pinch and pushing for better ‘results’ next week. But for me the more valuable success comes from:
- enjoying the daily writing process
- prioritising reading other participants blogs
- making time to be in my thoughts each day
- internalising the fact that perfection is impossible but excellence is achievable
How are you doing on your January Jumpstart journey? Everyone involved is doing so well and doing such creative things with the prompts. It’s inspiring to be sharing space with people who are writing really thoughtful, affirming, and constructive essays and reflections.
Keep up the great work!
This post is part of January Jumpstart 2023, a community writing project designed to help you get a jumpstart on a new year of writing. Want to join in or get more info?

It’s been a lovely writing challenge.
While I haven’t managed daily (yesterday was a bit of a blip) I’ve caught up, and posted what I would have written yesterday, if my brain was capable of it. So not daily, but close…
It’s been a lovely challenge. My commitment has been to play with style, and also to follow the prompts. I look forward to what the coming days have to offer!

One of the things I am loving so much about joking in with January Jumpstart is it has made me mindful of visiting other blogs. Unfortunately if I’m not blogging I tend to forget other people still are, which is a real shame. I’ve loved being back with the writing & reading. So yay for January Jumpstart, I think it’s been a roaring success already and we’ve still got so many days left to join in. Thank you for hosting Violet x
